Yeah, sorry guys; It’s been a while since I updated you all. That’s because I have actually been working on other projects — that’s right! I can’t talk details yet, but I am very excited and really enjoying working on something different for the time being. That doesn’t mean I have stopped working on my game, oh no, it’s just slowed things down a little.
And my blog? Well, I nearly forgot it was here.
Anyway, I have been doing work on my game… artwork to be precise. I drew out a bunch of characters a few weeks ago and scanned them in ready to digitally ink them.
Unfortunately, and this was something I had suspected for a while, I couldn’t do it easily at all. I currently use a Wacom Intuos 3 — I think I’ve had it for about 10 years — and yeah, it’s not

great for inking. My hand eye co-ordination using a standard tablet and a monitor isn’t great, so I’m really at that point where I need a tablet I can draw straight onto. I’ve been looking into Wacom Cintiq’s, Companion’s and Surface Pro’s for well over a month (well, years if I’m truthful), but yesterday I finally made the plunge! Apparently, the Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and let’s be honest, it’s damn expensive! I just bought a new Macbook Pro, so I’m not going to fork out £1500+ on a tablet. Soooo, I got the Wacom Cintiq 13HD Touch! It’s basically a little monitor I can plug into my laptop and pick up, rotate and use just like a sketchpad; ideal for me!
Anyway, that was a tangent! Check out those characters above; they are the date-ables in my game! There’s Matt, Tyna, Juan and Stuart. I will be telling you much more about them in the next few months!
So, with my current tablet being a bit useless, I’ve started focussing on background art instead as it’s much less precise. Now, this is something I underestimated; I always look at background art and think “it’s easy”. Sure, drawing backgrounds certainly feels like that, but painting them digitally is so damn difficult! When I think about it, I haven’t really done digital backgrounds before, so as you can imagine, I spent way too much time on them!

Sorry about the watermarks, but you can never be too careful with game resources! Saying that though, the backgrounds are not quite finished yet. I plan on making some small changes later down the line, but nothing too drastic (I hope).
Otherwise, I’ve been doing a little bit of code here and there (I love my new laptop!), but that’s it! I’m going on holiday after the Easter 4 day weekend, so there may not be any other updates for a while, though I hope you guys will stay tuned when I return! :)
