I’m at that point where you think you’re nearly finished, but weeks quickly pass and you feel further away from submission than ever.
Everything is slowly coming together, but I’m occasionally finding big gaping holes in the story, assets, you-name-it. I want One Night Stand to be a thorough, polished experienced that feels the same throughout, from start to end, so, when one ending feels rushed compared to the others, I’ve gone back in to flesh it out. The story is a big part of this; what’s currently there is good, it’s enough, but it doesn’t express everything we originally set out to do, so they’ll be a lot more story tweaks in the next few weeks.
The same can be said for music and sound effects too; I’ve already began to replace sound effects with better ones, and ensure none are missed, though overall ONS is still a quiet game. The music will be slightly improved too, in addition to another track being added.
As for art assets, I’d spent a lot of time this week polishing the sprites and UI. I can happily say sprites are finished, but I’m sure I’ve said that before! UI still needs some work (mainly refining) and the gallery section is half-way implemented, however there’s been a slight delay due to my lack of coding experience… Aah, I’ll get there in the end!
There are a couple of new backgrounds in ONS now (one of which is a mini-game) and new items with artwork for them. I’m at the point where I don’t really want to spoil anything, but here’s a glimpse at the new mini-game: Escape the apartment!
You only have a short amount of time to open the front door and get out before she catches you. It’s made a little more tense by added sounds and special effects.

Of course, with more variables like this, there are now way more endings. It’s looking like there will be 12 in all, which is double what the original game jam version had!
I am facing forward, focussing on getting ONS finished and released on Steam, but I do occasionally look back at the NaNoRenO version of ONS, and geez, it’s quite shocking: I cannot believe how simple it was, and how much it has progressed since then. Yet, it still got covered by hundreds of Let’s Players and articles, and even Sky News on the television! Crazy stuff, especially with no PR.
Anyway, I think ONS will be completed in the next few weeks. Then, I’ll be bug-testing, getting feedback from play-testers, adding Steam achievements, creating a new trailer, marketing and actually PRing this time! I’d be very happy if this all happens in the next month or so, but we shall see. It’s a lot of work for one gal!
